Starting this blog felt like the best way to keep discovering and discussing aspects of the Bakumatsu (and Japanese history in general), monitor progress in my research and organise my head. In an ideal world, it should become of compendium of the infinite layers that make history.

Originally a librarian/archivist/documentalist from Switzerland
MScR graduate from the University of Edinburgh (French soldiers in Japan during Bakumatsu and early Meiji periods)
